Beginning Math: Tips to help your child be successful

We all know how important math is to a child’s educational journey. It is also one of those subjects where some get it easily while some don’t. If you have a child struggling with math, do not give up because there are ways to help your child regain their confidence and find a new love for math.
Here are some tips and tricks we would like to share for success in beginning mathematics

  1. DICE: Children love to learn in a fun way, having issues getting your child to learn his/her addition problems? Why not try using DICE. Get a pair of dice and turn it into a game. Roll the dice and have your child add the two numbers. Take turns to play. The person with the most points win. Before you know it, your child is adding and subtracting without a fight.

  2. MATH FLASHCARDS: Addition and Subtraction flashcards are a great way to help your child learn beginning math problems. Children have a very good memory and the more they see it the more it sticks to their head.

  3. IPAD /Tablet Apps for Math: In this day and age of technologically advanced children, iPad /Tablet math games are a great way to help them learn. They will be busy having so much fun they won’t even realize they are learning. A good beginning math app is SPLASH MATH.

  4. WORKBOOKS: They say practice makes perfect. This also applies to children. Allow your child at least 20 minutes a day doing workbooks and solving math problems. The more they practice, the better they get.

  5. COUNTING AND SORTING GAMES: You can use most small object as counters. We recommend foam counters that are cut out into shapes for younger learners. This helps them learn about math as well as geometry.

I hope these tips will be helpful as you and your child continue your math journey.
