THE BEGINNING by Toni Payne

Some days you wish to forget, some years you live with regret
Tears mixed with sweat, blended with the bitter taste of confusion
That night marked the end of our Union
My heart pounding, Like the sound of the bata drums during festivities
I ran after the one that I loved
Grabbed his hand, on bended knees I pleaded
“Please don’t leave”
One swift push was all he needed
I fell on the floor in a daze, like a haze
